MeruPuri Review

MeruPuri was a manga that I accidentally discovered in my local used book store when I was just looking around.  The premised seems a bit ridiculous, but it had just the right formula to be interesting and keep me reading.  It wasn’t until later that I realized that this manga shared an artist with another manga I really like, Vampire Knight.  The manga was overall very enjoyable to read while it lasted, as it is only about 25 chapters. Updates on Life and Entertainment

Hey guys!  It’s been a pretty stressful week, which is why I’m glad it’s almost over.  I had to write a six page essay that I thought was supposed to be three pages so that sucked, but now I’m done!  I was fairly frustrated with this paper because I’m in a Shakespeare class and my teacher told us to just pick whatever we wanted to write about.  This is annoying to me because it makes everything so broad.  I eventually decided to write about the importance of characters in King Lear who don’t have first or last names, just titles (like the fool and servants).  The topic ended up being okay, but I tend to hate these kind of papers.  This may sound like a really bad thing for an English major to say, but it makes sense to me because there are very few times when you can write an essay about something you actually care about, and I hate pretending to care about something.

Body Image Thoughts

I’m taking a women’s studies class this semester, and it has really opened my eyes about a lot of things in my life.  One that was especially interesting to me was body image.  There have been a lot of interesting discussions on body image in this class, and some things came up that really made me think about my own life.  Several topics were discussed, such as the beauty myth being used to control women when the cult of domesticity lost power, and a recovering anorexic discussing how women reward themselves with higher self-esteem when they lose weight, but when they eat, or nourish their bodies, they punish themselves and feel bad even though they are participating in a perfectly natural process. Mahou Shoujo Puella Magi Madoka Review

I really enjoyed this anime recommended to me by my roommate.  It essentially destroys the idea of a magical girl and is very interesting.  It is a bit of a downer, but definitely worth watching.  There are 12 episodes so it doesn’t take very long, and the characters are very interesting.   Continue reading

Hunger Games Review

I am a huge fan of the Hunger Games book series and I was extremely pumped up for the movie.  I attended the midnight premiere in Boston and was 100% satisfied.  There aren’t enough words for me to describe how good this movie was.  I loved every minute of it and hope to see it several more times, despite the ridiculous movie prices at my local theatre (10 dollars a movie guys?  Really?).  This movie has so many good qualities that I’ll probably miss some, but I’ll do my best to go over the most important parts. Love Among the Walnuts Review

I was given this book by one of my friends who really enjoyed it.  I was really pleased with it, especially because it wasn’t on my list of books I wanted to read soon.   The book is simply adorable, sweet, and wonderful.  It is a real feel-good book, but that won’t make you enjoy it any less.  It is not simple and meaningless, it is just really enjoyable to read. Back From Spring Break!

Spring break is finally over, and oh the fun I had!  I took a trip to Boston to visit my friend who goes to Harvard.  The trip was absolutely awesome and so fun!  I essentially want to live in Boston now for many reasons.  I love the history in the city, the distinctly not crowded feeling, and for some strange reason I have a strong attachment to any public transportation system.  I just love riding the subway and getting around town without a car.  My trip was fun every single day so I will just give everyone some highlights about the explorations! The Tendencies of a “Neat-Freak”

I have always been a very neat and organized person and have basically either been teased or praised for it.  I really hate the term “neat-freak” because I was called this when I was younger, and I hated the thought that my need to be neat made me some sort of unnatural person.  I was always the kid who had the clean room, and even when it was messy it was still infinitely more clean than my friends’ rooms.  This really bothered me as a kid, but it doesn’t really anymore because being neat has helped me so much to succeed!  There are also some weird barriers that I have because I like to be neat (I’m not making this out to be some horrible things, I’m just observing funny things that bother me) and people have often been interested in the strange rituals I have.  I thought I would share some of the funnier ones. The Greatness That is Wizard Rock

This weekend was a pretty busy one for me.  Besides noticing that I need a haircut and my contacts hurting my eyes, I was experiencing the greatness that is Hallows and Horcruxes Ball 2012!!!  This event is a huge wizard rock concert where Harry Potter fans and wizard rock bands unite for awesomeness!  Continue reading

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Review

I am EXTREMELY excited to review this anime today because it is my favorite of all time.  Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is the standard I hold good anime to in any situation.  I don’t just consider it a good Shonen anime, but a wonderful anime and show in general.  There are many reasons I love this anime, the main ones being the plot and characters.
