A Bit of Time for Updates

Life has been so busy for me lately!  I’m sorry I haven’t updated you in a while, but the last couple of weeks have been frantic when it comes to homework and extracurricular activities.  This post is just going to go over some of the stuff that has been going on with me, entertainment and life wise. Rape Myths and The U.S. Justice System

We have been discussing rape in my Women’s Studies class recently, and I had a lot of thoughts about the things I learned.  Rape is considered an unpleasant subject and a lot of people don’t want to talk about it, but I think that we NEED to talk about it or else it is just going to keep happening.  I got a lot of really important information about rape in my textbook Women: Images and Realities and I just really wanted to share some of the myths about rape that I believed in until I read these articles, as well as discuss flaws in our justice system that involve rape that no one seems to be talking about. Eden of the East Review

Eden of the East is a fairly short anime that is very enjoyable.  I watched it near the end of last year and finished it quite quickly.  The story and characters are interesting and the plot is fairly unique.  I also really liked the animation, although the ending was a bit unsatisfying.  I would recommend it for those looking for something interesting that doesn’t take too much time to complete. A Tense Subject of Huge Importance

This article may make some of you uncomfortable because it is about a very sensitive issue that brings up bad memories for so many people, including myself.  I want to talk about suicide because of an experience I had in the past year with the loss of someone I knew to suicide.  I am most definitely not saying that everyone should hold the same opinions as me about this issue, I just want to write out how this made me feel personally and my own reaction.  Writing is a very cathartic thing for me, and I think this is one of the bigger issues I need to get off my chest.   Continue reading

Leviathan Series Review

I finished the last book of Scott Westerfeld’s Leviathan series in January, and am finally getting around to writing a review for the series.  I really enjoyed these books and was able to read them quite quickly because of it.  I have read other books by this author, but this series is quite different than the Uglies books, and just as well written.  The books combine an interesting fictional story with bits of historical elements and come up with something quite unique.  I recommend this book to readers of both the historical genre and fantasy genre. Ouran High School Host Club Manga Review

I absolutely love this manga, and I want to review it even though it has been done for awhile.  I watched the anime first, and it was actually the first anime I watched other the Naruto when I first got into anime.  I loved it and couldn’t stop laughing out loud, and because the ending was less than satisfactory for me, I decided to read the manga.  Needless to say, I was wonderfully satisfied with the ending of the manga and enjoyed reading every single chapter.  The comedy and drama are superior and it is generally good storytelling which I think makes it an appealing read to all readers, whether they like primarily shoujo or shonen manga.

Princess Tutu Review

If I had to choose a shoujo anime that would rival my love for Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Princess Tutu  would be the one.  This anime is absolutely wonderful, and the storytelling is unrivaled.  The characters are complex and interesting, the story is compelling, and the art and music is well-fitted.  I have watched this anime multiple times because it is so good, and I am reviewing it because I love it so much even though it is a bit older.  Anyone who likes any sort of anime or a great story will love Princess Tutu. Clockwork Prince Review

I have always been a big fan of the Mortal Instruments books by Cassandra Clare, so when my friends suggested her second series, the Infernal Devices, I was eager to read them.  These books, the first of which is called Clockwork Angel, are just as good as the Mortal Instruments books.  All of Clare’s books are very exciting and quick reads.  They are set in our world, but with the addition of people called Shadowhunters, who control the world’s vast population of magical and mythical creatures.  I really enjoyed Clockwork Prince, the second book in the trilogy, and eagerly await the release of the third book, entitled Clockwork Princess. Geek Girls Unite Review

I received this book for Christmas and I have finally gotten around to reviewing it.  The book was fairly enjoyable and I liked reading it, although it has several flaws I would like to point out.  I think it is a valuable read to any “geek” or “nerd” girl because there are a lot of really good things in here.  I applaud Ms. Simon for going for it in this book, even though she missed the mark at times. Extravagant Challenge Review

I can’t really classify this as a movie, anime, or manga review, so I guess I’m making a new category for show reviews (I probably won’t have ratings up on the main page unless I do a lot more).  Extravagant Challenge deserves a review because of all the entertainment it has given me.  The show ran 15 episodes and was one of the most entertaining shows I have ever watched.  My roommate  and I watched most of the show together and had a super fun time.  I discovered the show myself when I was perusing the Skip Beat tag on tumblr and discovered that a live-action drama was being made of the manga called Extravagant Challenge.  When the show started, I fell in love with it and couldn’t stop watching.  There are many reasons for my love of this show, which I will get into below.
