Making Things Better and Knowing a Name

All in all, today was a pretty crappy day in many ways. A lot of stuff went down that I did not appreciate at all. What really struck me though is how well the day ended up because of certain aspects in my life. Why don’t we first compile a list of things that were just plain suck today.

  • Having two midterms today, one is Spanish 4 and one is American Literature. The Spanish exam, may I add, was much too long for the class period.
  • My computer shut down my antivirus and I had to take time out of my studying around six to take it to the school IT place.
  • My newest pair of tights has a hole in the toe. This is my curse. I don’t know if I have especially pointy toes or a weird foot shape, but I can never keep a pair of tights intact.
  • I have to start figuring out classes for enrollment, which gives me a slight sickness of worry because it reminds me that the future is eminent.

Evidence of my curse

Yet despite all of this, I still had a pretty pleasant day. I think that it’s the simple things. I had a very tasty salad for lunch today. I also have a lovely little space heater at work that blows right on your toes for optimum warmth. The most wonderful thing about Wednesdays is that they are cookie days at work. Every Wednesday around three o’clock my boss goes to the University bake sale and purchases about ten giant cookies. As I am the only student worker Wednesday afternoons, he always comes in and shares a cookie with me. Today’s monster cookie really improved my test brain ache. Finally, I felt like I looked pretty fly today again, so I took a picture. You must understand that I don’t make such an effort very often, so I take pictures to commemorate the moment. Don’t worry, I don’t wear that mustard cardigan or a dress everyday. Am I crazy?!

Mustard Cardi, Print Dress, Retro Belt, Peacock Necklace

I got this belt from my mom. I love her retro items!

One of the contributors that made my day bleh wasn’t mentioned above because it made me really think and I wanted to contribute the rest the post to it. Continue reading

Situational Wisdom

I have always prided myself on being a good listener and giving good advice.  It really makes me feel good to be able to help people with whatever wisdom I have.  Recently I have had some problems with this aspect of my character though.  I have been trying to give a friend advice over a fight they are having, and although I have a lot to say it seems  to me that my advice might not help at all.  The more that I delve into the problem, the less I know about what to do.  This makes me really worried because I really love giving helpful advice. It’s Not My Fault That the iPhone Exists Guys

I was recently having a conversation with my dad that led me to this post.  He was mentioning an opinion piece that he read about the horrors of Facebook and social networking.  I have no idea what the article was or whether it had a good point, but his topic reminded me of something that happens to me often.  I am just going through life, doing whatever, and some person who is older than me yells at me for using technology.  ”You spend too much time on the computer!  Stop texting, don’t you ever talk to your friends?”  This kind of talk has always inherently pissed me off.  It just confuses me.  Guys, I AM talking to my friends.  It isn’t a robot on the other side of this text, it is my friend.  I get pretty frustrated that all the adults I know seem to want me to throw all my technology aside and rejoice in my glorious rebellion.  I know there are a lot of negative aspects of the internet and other recent technology, but it’s not like I can just stop using it and try to live my life successfully.  We are all inevitably caught up in technology, and I shouldn’t be scolded for doing what comes naturally to me in this age.
